Our last night in the camper 😥

I was so sad to leave Peniche this morning, but we had to head in the direction of Lisbon again. We had some beautiful last days though…

Now we are at the camping, cleaning the camper and washing all the clothes and towels so that we can leave our little home in good condition here in Lisbon for a few week…

So this is the (for now) last night in our mobile bed…

😥😥😥

Weather report: cold but sunny

The wonderful thing about Peniche and Baleal is that you have beaches in different directions, which creates different options for surfers.

Michael and Amélie got in the water immediately on Friday, but they discovered that the temperature is not quite the same as when we were here a few weeks ago and they froze their feet off 😬

This called for a solution of course:

And then they were good to go 👍

To be honest, it IS getting colder now, around 15 degrees during the day. In the sun it’s still amazing, but after sunset it gets cold very quickly. For the very first time I made myself a cup of tea tonight!

I refuse to put on the heater 💪

Here some more pictures of the last days:

Halleluja he has a board!!!

The last few days in Sagres were all about Michael finally finding a board that fits his uhm… grandiose body 😜
So Thursday we went to a lot of surf shops and they ALL had a different view on what kind of board a man of his ‘stature’ should have 🙄 We did a little tour and went as far as Luz, where I filmed the special weather conditions that day 😱

The most positive thing that day was that we Ran into Alex and Anastasia (the hairdresser) AGAIN 😂

We were so beat that we decided to stay in Luz for the night on a nice parking, together with a Swedish couple in a camper. The view was amazing: my dream house!!

What do you think?? Pretty nice huh, with sea view and all 😜

The day after we headed back to Sagres and visited one last surf shop and…

Yes!!!! Found the perfect board!! So today we drove up to Sines where the waves are perfect for beginners and yes ladies and gentleman: the board and the man fit perfectly together

We have a happy man in the house 😊

The joy of clean clothes

We had 2 more great days at our free spot at the beach 👍😍

But it was time to get a proper shower and do some laundry, and as Michael is leaving for Belgium again (for ‘De Improfeten’), we decided to go to a camping.

And that’s where we are now! I’ll be staying here with Amélie till M gets back, the camping is really nice (south of Lisbon) and the weather report looks great so we don’t complain (yet) 😜

Oh, hi officer 😬

Full day yesterday!

First, we went on a hunt for gas, very important! Our 2nd and last bottle was now only running on fumes, and we were a little bit nervous because we have a Belgian system which is not compatible with the Portuguese gas bottles… so first we went to a camping for some advice and they sent us to a small shop that had a really complicated solution 😱 luckily they sent us to another shop and there we found what was needed + we got some assistance in changing the system, thank you Repsol!

Now that we were sure our fridge would keep functioning it was time to head to the beach and try the new board of course,

But first… a lesson in waxing!

And then she was good to go 👍

This board is smaller than the first one, so more difficult of course, but she nailed it 🙂 this was one of the first attempts:

Yup, it takes a lot of practice!

But then, last night while having dinner in our camper, a police car started circling around us… so we were worried that maybe we couldn’t stay there or we did something wrong maybe… the police officer was this young macho athletic guy and he got out of his car and came right at us, so Michael got out of the camper to find out what was wrong.

“You speak Portuguese?” the guy asked, but in this really macho way some (not all 😜) police officers talk.

“No, sorry!”

“English?”

“Yes!”

“So… where are the numbers??” (He pointed at our licence plate)

“There are no numbers, this is the combination”, Michael replied.

“No, where are the numbers!!??” (He wasn’t convinced…)

“Really, this is our plate, you can check on the back, it’s the same!”

“Yeah I checked the back, there are no numbers!!!”

And then Michael explained to the guy that in Belgium you can choose a combination if you pay extra and that we did just that and chose:

And the police officer started laughing and he said “I can’t believe it!” And then he took of, still laughing and shaking his head, while looking at the plate.

As did we.

😂😂😂

So Peniche it is?

We never stayed this long in one spot, we enjoy the beach with the body boards or we rent a surfboard,

Yes this is ME actually

We drive our camper to the service spot at the Intermarché (which is free, Thank you Intermarché!!) to refill the water and clean the toilet etc, and then we just drive back to our spot at the beach 🙂

But yesterday (friday) I suggested it was time to move on and maybe we should go to a camping for the weekend, to do some laundry etc.

So on a perfect surf day with 27 degrees C, we drove for over an hour via the beautiful coastline,

Only to find out that the camping was next to a beach that was

A) too far

B) too dangerous, with rocks all over

😐

As this was really not our thing, we decided to check out Santa Cruz

Which was really beautiful! But the surf school was closed so no chance of renting a board for Amélie…

It was there that we decided to just head back to Peniche 😬

But with a little detour..

Yes, Decathlon is doing great business as long as we’re around 😂

It was such a great feeling last night when we finally got back to our spot, we all felt like coming home, which is really odd (it’s just a parking) and today (Saturday) Amélie is ready to test out the new board… to be continued! 🏄
